AI Leadership Alert: The Culling Is Accelerating, Cathie Wood Big Ideas Report [029]
Ron Boire

Cathie Wood at ARK Invest just released her 10th annual Big Ideas report, and if you are a leader, investor in a company, or a parent, you should read this report.
My headline: AI isn't just another technology wave. It's the driver accelerating five major innovation platforms simultaneously: artificial intelligence, robotics, energy storage, public blockchains, and multiomics. These technologies aren't evolving in parallel. They're converging and creating a widening gap between organizations and leaders that adapt and those that resist.
Some interesting and a bit scary ideas:
The cost of intelligence has collapsed 99% in one year. Software development costs dropped from $3.50 to $0.32 per million tokens in just eight months. Every business model built on information asymmetry or knowledge work margins is now exposed.
AI agents increased their reliable task duration 5x in 2025 alone, from six minutes to 31 minutes of autonomous work. ARK projects real GDP growth could jump from 3% to over 7% annually by 2030 for economies that embrace these platforms. The companies and leaders who move slowly will watch their competitors pull away at an unprecedented pace.
This is the culling I've been warning about.
Technology revolutions always create winners and losers. The railroads did it. Electrification did it. The internet did it. But what's different now is the speed of convergence. ARK's research shows that the interdependence between these innovation platforms increased 35% in 2025 alone. Advances in one area unlock capabilities in another, creating acceleration loops that compound faster than traditional strategic planning cycles can absorb.
Implication: if you have a five-year plan, you don’t.
The leaders who will thrive aren't the ones with the biggest technology budgets. They're the ones with the clearest sense of purpose and the operating systems to make fast, decisive choices aligned with that purpose. Technology adoption without leadership clarity creates chaos, not transformation.
This report is worth your time. Not because Cathie has all the answers, but because it forces the right questions: Is your organization positioned for step-function change? Are you leading with the speed this moment demands? Do you have the clarity to know which bets to make and which to walk away from? Do you have a process for managing your innovation portfolio, or is it set-and-forget?
